The history of NFTs has just begun. What will happen in the future and which collections will dominate the market in five or ten years is impossible to know. But, if 100 years from now, some historian wants to narrate which collections stood out at the dawn of this technology, surely, he will mention CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club.

History is written by those who win, they say. In these early years, there were collections that managed to position themselves as winners, by generating a large volume of sales; sometimes in excess of one million ETH.

One such collection is CryptoPunks –@cryptopunksnfts – created by Larva Labs and launched in 2017. Two software developers -Matt Hall and John Watkinson- drove this punk culture-inspired project.

There are only 10,000 NFTs from this collection. Initially, they were released for free and anyone could get them. Subsequently, the market decided to give them an extraordinary price and, as of the date of publishing this article, several of the items in this collection are usually sold daily for an amount that generally exceeds 100 thousand dollars.

The NFT Bored Ape Yacht Club collection –@BoredApeYC– would come a few years later, in 2021, created by Yuga Labs. At the time of release, the initial price of the NFTs in this collection was also ridiculously lower than it is today. 

Today, the floor price of this collection of 10,000 NFTs is around 47 ETH -about 90,000 dollars- and hundreds of these items are sold every day. Throughout their history, the Bored Ape have moved a volume that exceeds one million ETH.

Celebrities such as Snoop Dogg and Justin Bieber own their NFT from this collection, while soccer player Neymar, for a time, displayed his on his Instagram profile picture.

Yuga Labs subsequently created secondary collections such as Bored Ape Kennel Club, Mutant Serum and Mutant Ape Yacht Club. In 2022, Yuga Labs acquired

2022, Yuga Labs acquired all the intellectual property of CryptoPunks and Meebits, while granting full commercial rights to the owners of CryptoPunks.

One of these secondary collections, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, ranks third with the highest historical sales volume with over 800 thousand Ethereum of historical volume.

Thus said, Yuga Labs stands perhaps as the big winner in this initial story within the collections on the ETH network. However, the NFT market is in its infancy, it is very changeable and it is impossible to predict what the next pages of NFT history will be in the years to come.
